Favorite Places to Have Family Pictures Taken in Noblesville, Fishers, and Carmel, Indiana

I get it. Families want to know where to go to capture those perfect family portraits. This is almost always one of the first questions I get from my clients. And sometimes a certain location can help determine what direction to go with outfits for your family pictures. For example, what you wear for an urban family session vs. a family session in a great wide open field might be completely different, right?!

Quick Disclaimer: While it is always nice to nail down that perfect location for pictures, I also like to add that it isn’t always about the location… it is often about the gorgeous light and the chemistry of the family that makes the perfect family portrait:)

Ok, ok. Back to it. Let’s talk location. I will focus on nature spots/parks in this blog post, but stay tuned because I plan to come back and talk about my favorite URBAN locations next!

(1) Coxhall Gardens | Carmel, Indiana: Coxhall Gardens is such a versatile park. You can find a big red barn, tall black iron gates, a beautiful old brick mansion, walking trails, and a music pavilion… the options are endless here! Coxhall never disappoints. Because there are not a lot of trees at this park, it is often best to shoot here in the evening, an hour or two before sunset.

(2) Forest Park | Noblesville, Indiana: Another versatile park for family pictures. There is so much to offer at this park as well! There are large, mature trees, a golf course, bridges, fences, flowers, trails, a carousel… the list could go on. I love to shoot here in the evening, but it is also a good park to shoot at in the morning and even in the afternoon (because there is so much shade).

(3) Potter’s Bridge Park | Noblesville, Indiana: Just down the road from Forest Park is another really neat park, Potter’s Bridge. There is an old covered bridge at this park — but there are also several other options here as well, including an open field. Depending on what season it is, this field can look so different! Think tall grasses and wildflowers. The sun sets right behind this field, making it a popular park for many photographers, especially in the evening.

(4) Flowing Well Park | Carmel, Indiana: This tiny little park in the East Carmel area has a lot to offer as well. There is a cute little pedestrian bridge, lots of walking trails and a little creek also. I find that elementary-aged kiddos love this park because they like to play in the creek, skip rocks and just explore (all things I encourage during a shoot with me!)

(5) The Historic Ambassador House and Heritage Gardens | Fishers, Indiana: Another favorite of mine! I wish I was able to shoot there more often, but there are a lot of weddings scheduled here, making it hard to schedule a session (unless you don’t mind scheduling your session Monday – Wednesday, when there are rarely any events going on). The landscaping is beautiful, the flowers are always perfectly maintained, and the white picket fences and wrap around porch give this location a unique feel to it. I love this location spring – fall. And, like all the other locations listed here, it gets beautiful light in the evening.
